It's designed for people that are just starting out. So a 2014 conversion tool for a 2014 product which states everywhere on there website that " UPGRADERS: Does NOT transfer existing data from other Quicken versions", meaning it doesn't import or upgrade your data. When it attempted to load it I got the error "Unable to validate your file".
I then went to browse for and open my 2014 data file. This is just after I tried a different path when the program opened and selected Quickbooks 2004 to make its own new data file. I can't proceed with the "Select your data file". Update1: No progress, the buttons are still grayed out. I'll update whenever I'm done with this obstacle course. After re-installing 2004 the buttons are clickable and I'm just finishing up this note.
I finally realized my error so I uninstalled 2004 and turned off XP compatibility mode on the installer. I had forgot to turn off compatibly mode on the installer, so when Quicken 2004 loaded, the buttons were grayed out on the "Get Started" page. Next, I uninstalled 2014 and installed 2004 in its default directory. I turned on XP sp3 compatibility mode on the installer to see if that was the problem.
I then tried a different directory (./Quicken2004) and it still erred. So when I tried to install 2004 without uninstalling 2014, the installer gave me an error. A step they didn't mention was having to uninstall 2014 to install 2004.
